Hi all, today, the actual work begins. Hope you've gathered your supplies over this past week and are ready to start part 1 of Kirby! Part 1 consists of only one piece, the body, which is also the biggest portion, which is why it gets its own part in the CAL. By next week, this is what we will have completed:

The one on the right, is using the recommended yarn for this pattern, the Big Twist Cuddle. The left one is made using 4 weight acrylic yarn, and one i'm crocheting along with all of you!

The materials needed for today are listed under "Materials" and the pattern begins in the "Pattern - Body" section.

Materials:

Big Twist Cuddles Yarn (in Pink)

Hook size K/6.5 mm

Stuffing

**In last weeks summary I also stated any yarn would work, so long as the hook size is one smaller than the recommended

Pattern - Body:

Notes:

- The stitch count in a round is marked in the parenthesis at the end of each round.

- "x #" indicates the number of times to repeat the instructions in the parenthesis.

For example in round 3, "(Sc, Inc) x6 (18)" tells us to put a single crochet in the next stitch, followed by 2 single crochets in the following. Repeat this 6 times, for a total of 18 stitches in the round.

Abbreviations:

Sc - single crochet

Inc - increase (2 single crochet in one stitch)

Dec - decrease (single crochet two stitches together)

Begin here:

Round 1: 6 Sc in magic ring (6)

Round 2: (Inc) x6 (12)

Round 3: (Sc, Inc) x6 (18)

Round 4: (2 Sc, Inc) x6 (24)

Round 5: (3 Sc, Inc) x6 (30)

Round 6: (4 Sc, Inc) x 6 (36)

Round 7: (5 Sc, Inc) x6 (42)

Round 8: (6 Sc, Inc) x6 (48)

Round 9: (7 Sc, Inc) x6 (54)

Round 10: (8 Sc, Inc) x6 (60)

Round 11: (9 Sc, Inc) x6 (66)

Round 12: (10 Sc, Inc) x6 (72)

*Rounds 13-21: Sc around (72)

Round 22: (Sc 10, Dec) x6 (66)

Round 23: (Sc 9, Dec) x6 (60)

Round 24: (Sc 8, Dec) x6 (54)

Round 25: (Sc 7, Dec) x6 (48)

Round 26: (Sc 6, Dec) x6 (42)

Round 27: (Sc 5, Dec) x6 (36)

Round 28: (Sc 4, Dec) x6 (30)

Round 29: (Sc 3, Dec) x6 (24) **Begin to stuff here, stuff firmly

Before stuffing, it may be looking a little odd and not quite round like this:

After stuffing, the shape will fill out more and become more round. Don't worry.

Round 30: (Sc 2, Dec) x6 (18)

Round 31: (Sc, Dec) x6 (12)

Round 32: (Dec) x6 (6)

Finish off. Sew in ends.

With acrylic yarn, this is about what your finished piece should looking like.

With the recommended yarn, the Big Twist Cuddle, this is what your finished body piece should look like.

That's it! While the body is pretty straight forward, all those rounds can be tiring, I know I had to take some breaks working this up. But that's why we have a week to finish this piece.

Next week we'll be working up the arms and legs so be sure to have the red yarn ready as well (or whatever colors you may be using). If you have any questions, leave a comment down below or send me a DM on instagram and I'll get back to you. See you all then and happy crocheting.
