Cute coaster pattern to brighten up any room. You will need to know how to single crochet, double crochet and treble crochet for this pattern.
This pattern is worked in two different parts, the center of the flower, and the petals of the flower. I used brown for the center, and yellow for the petals, just like a sunflower!

Materials:
Yarn: Medium/Weight 4 Hook: Size 5.00M/H
Fabric Stiffener (not necessary but useful)
Pattern:
Abbreviations used:
Sc = single crochet
Dc = double crochet
Dc Inc = double crochet increase
Tr = treble crochet
Inc = increase
Sl st = slip stitch
Ch = chain
The numbers in parenthesis represent the total number of stitches you should have at the end of the round. The "x#" is the number of times you should repeat the given stitches. Ex: "(Sc, Inc) x 8" , means you should do a single crochet, followed by an increase, 8 times.
**For the center part of the flower, each round is worked in alternating single crochet and double crochet (it is marked, but just be aware!)
Center Part (in brown):
Round 1: Create a magic circle, Sc 8 (8)
Round 2: Dc, Inc in each stitch (16)
Round 3: (Inc, Sc) x 8 (24)
Round 4: (Dc Inc, 2 Dc) x 8 (32)
Round 5: (Inc, 3 Sc) x 8 (40)
Finish off. Attach yellow yarn to begin making the petals.
Petals (yellow):
Petal #1: Sc ch1, Dc ch1, (Tr, ch2, sl st into 1st chain, Tr) in same stitch, Dc ch1, Sc
*Each petal should only use 5 stitches
Repeat "Petal #1" until you have 8 petals in total. Sl st to first stitch.
Finish off. Sew in ends.
Extra:
While not necessary, I do recommend spraying the coaster with fabric stiffener to help the coaster to lay flat. Personally, I spray both sides of the coaster and then either pin the petals down or lay something heavy on top to keep it flat until it is dry (typically a few hours - a day)
Care:
If the coaster does get dirty, I recommend lightly hand washing it to remove the stains. Be sure to lay it flat to dry, to help keep its shape.
